Review: The Four Patriots

The Four Patriots The Four Patriots by Sumit Agarwal
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The story is about four young ambitious men who intend to bring about a change in the system by taking action instead of just sitting back and complaining about all the wrongdoings in the country.

The book begins with the stories of the four protagonists and their predicaments which eventually lead them to bring about change in the nation. It takes time for the story to pick pace but once it does, you don’t really feel like putting it down. The story has a good mix of various emotions and it is bound to touch your heart at least once. At times, you may feel that it’s getting unrealistic or highly idealistic but that is what the author tries to convey throughout the story - As long as you do nothing, things will remain the same. He has addressed various issues that are relevant in our nation’s context and has offered his suggestions on the same through the story and they make sense.

All the four protagonists’ characters have been written well and I can’t really pick out a favorite because each character is equally good and all of them have been given equal importance in the story. But I think it’d have been better if at least one of the four protagonists was a lady. One complaint I have with this book is that the antagonists were really weak. For a story such as this, having a great antagonist would have really elevated the story but that wasn’t clearly the case.

The writing style was really good especially the simple language that the author chose to use throughout the book. There are a few editing errors initially which I feel could have easily been avoided. Kudos to the author for putting in such solemn efforts. I suggest you read the author’s note at the end of the book.

Overall the book makes for a good read. If it doesn’t inspire you to do something for your nation, it will at least make you think. Do give it a read and I’m sure you’ll be left with some positive vibes at the end of it.
